(WASHINGTON, DC)—Today, She Should Run, a nonpartisan organization dedicated to dramatically increasing the number of women in public leadership, applauded the selection of Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers as the new House GOP Conference Chairwoman. Congresswoman Rodgers, previously the Conference Vice-Chair, is only the second woman ever to hold the post within the GOP.
“It is critical that our government reflect the diversity of our great nation,” said She Should Run CEO/President Siobhan “Sam” Bennett. “On Capitol Hill, where women will make up less than 19% of the new Congress, it is particularly important that both parties do whatever they can to support and promote the women within their ranks. This is especially true for the Republican Party where women will occupy fewer than 10% of the 230+ Republican-held seats in the U.S. House of Representatives. We wish Congresswoman Cathy McMorris all the best as she continues to serve as an inspiration for Republican women across the country.”
